  1. Cost to travel – Things to consider (Flights, how you get around, best safari company, where you will stay)

When traveling to Africa in 2022 and beyond, one of the biggest things to have in the back of your head will be Covid (downer, I know) and how it might impact your travel, or limit what it is you are able to do.  However, because of Covid, tourism has taken a hit, which has driven down prices as well.

To take advantage of possible cost savings, make sure you check an assortment of dates and times. My biggest recommendation when looking at airfare flying into Nairobi, make sure you check out Scott’s Cheap Flights These guys will save you a ton of money. Make sure you cross-reference any of your flight pricing finds with Google Flights with their incredible flight finding features.  While the different Covid strains are affecting flights in a major way, it is likely an amazing deal to fly into the countries like Kenya. The other big costs come into how long (or how many safaris you will want to do…more on that in a bit).

Unless you are used to driving on the other side of the road, we are stronger advising you NOT to try to rent a vehicle in Kenya. Driving is definitely an art form and a dance in Kenya, especially in the big city of Nairobi. So let’s get that out of the way. One of the great things about being in some of the bigger cities like Nairobi and Mombassa is they have a great rideshare system, that’s extremely cheap and favorable including UBER and Bolt, DiDi, and Chap Chap.  All these are Apps that are downloadable once you enter Kenya. We suggest that you try to download all of these before entering the country because depending on your phone plan, the internet can be spotty, or non-existent (depending on location).

Also, something big to consider is Kenya is a large country with a number of different areas with a variety of temperatures, backdrops, and activities to see and explore. Some of these will take a long time to get to (travel) and maybe add to the cost. Some are in really inexpensive digs. Check out this feature on cheap places to stay in the bush in Kenya. There are also some camps that are opulent and secluded areas in the bush that costs thousands a day. Check out this Luxury Camp in the bush.

One HUGE thing you need is a good quality company to give you the best-laid plans and advice. We believe Black List Tours is perfectly suited to help you plan out your trip. We take care of everything for you from the time you touch down in Nairobi or Mombasa, all the way until you leave beautiful Kenya! We are only for you to have the greatest experience of your life. You can give us a call or go to the website and fill out the form and let us know how we can help you plan an incredible adventure!

NOW….if you are coming to Kenya to go on a safari, you are in store for some amazing sights. If you aren’t planning on going on a safari, you are missing out big time, but we’ll tell you about some other things you can do in another post.

If you are a Westerner, be sure you have a good idea of how close to 1st world luxury you want? Planning a safari is NOT the same as choosing a hotel in Las Vegas, Florida, or the Caribbean. The U.S. and European standards don’t always match up with Kenya’s. Start out with a list of MUST HAVE’s,  and then go down from there. There are a TON of great resorts that offer many of the luxuries and more (especially unique to Africa) at great prices. Some recommendations are Olare Mara Kempinski Masai MaraClick here for more

This is just one of 5 things to consider when planning a safari in Kenya, Africa. Stay tuned for the #2 thing to consider when planning a safari in Kenya.
