Lamu is like an ancient yogi chant came to life with soft sandy beaches, enchanting sunsets and sunrises. Middle Eastern sounds, architecture and way of life, all along the shores of Africa. Lamu became an important religious center in East and Central Africa in the 19th century, attracting scholars of Islamic religion and Swahili culture.
Lamu Town on Lamu Island is Kenya’s oldest continually inhabited town and was one of the original Swahili settlements along with coastal East Africa. It is believed to have been established in 1370.
